Connecting chat to engagement widgets

Giveaways, polls, the hype meter and chat alerts become useful when viewers can understand what to type and immediately see the result on screen.

Before you start

1. Connect the chat destinations you want to use on the channel.
2. Add the matching widget to your Main overlay.
3. Publish or activate the campaign from Engage.
4. Display a short instruction on stream, such as !vote blue or !join.

Chat activity is tied to the channel and its connected destinations. Keep the instruction short, use one clear keyword, and allow a few seconds for viewers to see their entry reflected in the widget.

If nothing appears

Check that the channel is live, the relevant destination is connected, and the campaign is active. Preview the overlay itself to rule out a layout or browser-source problem. If the widget is visible but does not update, stop and start the campaign once, then check the destination's chat connection.

Do not ask viewers to post passwords, payment details or other sensitive information in chat. Engagement data should be treated as public stream content.
