How do I show the current song playing on my stream?

A “now playing” card is a small touch that makes a stream feel produced — and it saves you answering “what’s this song?” in chat all day. Here’s how to put one on screen that keeps itself up to date.

A widget that reads what you’re playing

Stream Repeater’s Now Playing widget shows the current track’s cover art, title, artist and a live progress bar. The free Local Agent reads your desktop music session (Spotify) and sends the track details to the overlay, so it updates on its own as songs change — nothing to type.

Add it to your scene

Drop the Now Playing widget onto an overlay, position and style it, and add that overlay to your stream as a browser source (or let it ride along with the agent broadcast). When no music is playing, the card simply hides itself.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the song information come from?

The Local Agent reads your computer’s music session (Spotify) and forwards the track details to the overlay — you don’t enter anything manually.

Does the overlay update automatically?

Yes. It follows your playback, updating the track and progress bar as songs change, and hides when nothing is playing.

Does it play the music into my stream?

No — it only displays what’s playing. Add music to your stream through your normal audio setup; use a royalty-free source to stay safe on VODs.
